Important Update: Irish Visa Requirements for South African and Botswanan Passport Holders
We want to inform our clients about the recent changes in Irish visa requirements for holders of South African and Botswanan passports. As of 10th July 2024, travelers from these countries will need to obtain an Irish visa before traveling to Ireland.
Limited Transitional Arrangements (for certain travelers only)
From 10th July 2024 to 9th August 2024, there are limited transitional arrangements in place:
- Eligibility: South African and Botswanan passport holders who have already booked travel to Ireland before 10th July 2024 and plan to travel before 10th August 2024 may still visit Ireland without an Irish visa. However, they must meet the following conditions:
- Possess a valid passport.
- Provide documentary proof from their carrier (not a Travel Agent) showing the date of ticket purchase, passenger name, flight number, and travel date.
- Documentation: Travelers availing of the transitional arrangements must be prepared to produce this documentation when requested by a carrier or an Immigration Officer. Normal immigration rules applicable to non-nationals seeking entry to Ireland will still apply.
Important Notes:
- Travel After 9th August 2024: If you’ve booked travel to Ireland before 10th July 2024 but plan to travel after 9th August 2024, you cannot avail of the limited transitional arrangements. You’ll need to obtain an Irish visa before your trip.
- Booking Travel After 10th July: If you book travel to Ireland after 10th July, you cannot benefit from the limited transitional arrangements. You must obtain an Irish visa in advance, even if your travel date falls before 10th August 2024.
- Irish Residence Permit (IRP) Holders: If you already possess a valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card, you do not need a separate Irish visa.
