Extension of the 5-year multi entry short-stay visa
The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD, has announced the extension of the 5-year multi entry short-stay visa option to all visa required countries.
The 5-year multi entry visa was first introduced in 2019 to Chinese passport holders as a pilot project. Due to success of which it is now extended to all other passport holders who require visa to Ireland. New changes are welcomed by many businesses within Ireland, including those working in tourism and English Language Training sectors.
Some things to remember when applying for 5 year multi entry visa to Ireland:
1 – if granted visa is valid for the period of 5 years but only for the short term entry, the usual rule of which is 90 days in 180 days period
2 – main reasons for requesting such visa are business reasons and visiting family. This visa is really well suited for anyone doing business with Irish partners or anyone who has relatives or close friends living in Ireland permanently whom you would like to visit from time to time.
3 – in general, multi entry visas are only issued to those applicants who have already shown a compliant Irish travel history. This has changed now and applicants who can show complaint travel history to Schengen zone, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand are welcome to apply for new 5 year multi entry visa even if they have never been to Ireland before and have never applied for an Irish entry visa or clearance certificate before.
4 – a gentle reminder that with all visa applications, the granting of visa is at the discretion of the relevant Visa Officer. Relevant documents must be provided to support the application of 5 year multy entry visa.
